I had several candidate images, including some that Ruth took in Northern California.
We wanted an overall image, which cut out some of the possibles.
This is a shot of the solar eclipse of 2017, taken at Honoli'i, near Hilo. It was never going to be more than a partial eclipse, and the clouds moved in to eclipse the eclipse -- but when they did, I caught this wonderful dragon-like cloud edge.
It's been rotated 90 degrees, and there are no dragons in the book. But it works well, I think.
For the back cover, I took a portion of the glowing edge, enlarged it, and blurred it.
