Donald Mengay had an old photographic print of a place he'd lived years ago. The image was blurry, the colors kind of strange, but he thought it would work and I agreed.

This might be the only cover image where the author did the Photoshop work, messing with the colors and tossing in some radial blur -- perfect!

Then we had fun with the font. We were looking for something a bit Western, since the novel's set in the west. But most of the fonts tagged as "western" weren't suitable at all. But finally I found this one, called "Dry Cowboy," and after wondering what the heck that was all about, I learned that the font designer had previously put out one called "Drunk Cowboy." All right, then.
