Some of the action in Linney Stepp involves quilting.

And the author, Diane Gilliam, is an accomplished quilter, as well as poet and novelist. So we thought we'd use a quilt on the cover.

The quilt we used was made by Don Mitchell's great-grandmother, probably in the late 19th century, a bit before the time period in which Linney Stepp is set, and in Iowa rather than Kentucky.

When Diane was visiting SRP, we went through the quilts, chose this one, took it outside and tossed it over a lawn chair. It fell into folds we all liked and -- gasp -- I made the image with my iPhone. The Nikon D850 stayed in the house. This is the first iPhone cover from one of my images, but The Hojoki Re-membered's cover is a phone shot made by Gillian Barlow.
