When Alison sent me this image, I knew it was just right, so she's added to the (short) list of SRP authors who provided their own cover art.

We tried various "straight" versions of her image, meaning color and b/w, but in the end the solarized version seemed the right one.

I'll quote from something she wrote me:

"I feel a thrill seeing one of my photos on the cover! The place where I took it (the Sunrise Bridge along the American River) is really special to me. So special that it even comes up in my acknowledgments. Just a couple of weeks ago, I watched the last of the season's salmon swimming upriver at that very spot. Now the banks are strewn with bones, and the bird's bellies are all full."
